When I am writing this blog, it has been about one year after I decided to move to this major. When I was in BA Transport Design, I used to have one Moodboard in my portforlio which was a VR concept that you drive in a simulator device take you to a virtual world where you can drive with your friends to anywhere, any place of interests in the world.
Different places to drive a SUV and enjoy the wind or in a huge camping car and see the mountain goes slowly.
The idea is not going anyfurther because Transport Design goes for product, and this concept is more like a method.
And I want to further this idea again and make it a go with a unity project, where to build beautiful scenes and add some tour drive routines for players to play and socialize.
It will contain a list of friends on UI layer and you can interact with certain button to send invites and let them into your car to anywhere. I was considering which scene to build as I already had some places to choose. The scene will be a little bit cartoon like rather than fully realistic as my preference.
In 2030, after your work after an entire day, you sit in the device and invited your friend in another country to japan, Fuji yama which was recenly updated open place to have a tour.
You can even try different time to be such as in 1998 where Fuji is more clean and beautiful, or 2070 where you will see a cyberponk Fuji someone created, or even the Fuji yama in EVANGELION.
And of course I won’t make all the scene, I will choose one and build a nice scene. As long as the experience to be in a car, like some VR racing car projects.
I would like this project to be a prototype as to open one certain kind aside from so many socializing VR projects stay on chating function. It is much more interesting to go on for a tour with your friends in a camping car, isn’t it? The looking and feelings might be the same everytime and you get bored with 360° vedio or 3D tour which already exist, but it is never bored to go with your friends.
BMW has recently shared their virtual driving simulator centre as you experience driving with wind in a round device.
This device with certain function of simulation proves the potential of my project. It is easy to realize in Unity, and the device it is based on is wide-ranged. With a camera on top of your device to capture your looking and push it to the virtual world with a 3D look with synchro to the network, and some chemical preset with smell in this conceptal device to spread and air flow to simulate. It is reliable to realize and interact with, though impossible now.
As what am I about to input to Unity is to build a good interaction between VR joy-cons and the driving experience in 3D. It could be trouble that the player goes everywhere in no rule, so the experience will be linear and you are just seating in a car to view all the amazing things automatically or with some simple adjustment to how the speed will be . I know it will be much more fun to build a real drive simulator but I am not that good at coding.
I will use playmaker steamVR to make this game.
